Spotlight Questions:

How long have you been with Bestcan Tours?
I’ve been in the tourism industry for over 20 years and have collaborated with Tourism Richmond for about 15 years.

Who inspired you to pursue the career you have today?
My journey into tourism began unexpectedly. In my third year after immigrating to Canada, my first son was born, and I lost my job while caring for him. To support my family, I started my own business―Bestcan Tours. My son and my family have been my greatest source of motivation throughout this journey.

What do you love most about your job?

I love helping people discover Canada’s breathtaking landscapes and creating unforgettable travel experiences. Seeing the smiles on my clients’ faces after a successful trip makes all the hard work worthwhile.

Where were you born?

I was born in Wuhan, China.

What’s something about you (a fun fact) that few people know?

I’m a good cook now! Before COVID, I didn’t know how to cook at all. During the pandemic, I learned many dishes through apps like 下厨房. Now I can make complex and delicious Chinese dishes that my family loves.

What’s one item you can’t live without?

My cell phone! It’s my car key, wallet, reminder, and connection to the world. I truly can’t imagine life without it.

An item on your bucket list.

I’d love to take a family trip to China! My three boys were born in Canada and have only been visiting to China once as babies. Now that they’re all university students, I’d like them to experience China’s rich history by visiting places like the Great Wall and the Terracotta Warriors. I also want them to try different Chinese dishes and introduce them to my cousins and friends there.

Favourite place you have visited?

Banff National Park in Alberta―it’s stunning in every season. Each visit leaves me in awe of the natural beauty and the sense of serenity it brings.

Tea or coffee?

Tea. It’s comforting and helps me unwind after a busy day. It also holds a special place in my heart as it reminds me of growing up with my parents.

If you could have lunch with anyone in the world who would be (could be alive or dead) and why?

I would love to have lunch with my parents one more time. In my first year after immigrating to Canada, both of them passed away, and I never had the chance to have a final meal with them. If I could, I’d cherish that moment to express my gratitude and hear their voices again.
