Business Development is in full swing as we started the year off with two very successful trade shows, some critical conversations and some great momentum moving forward.

In January, we attended Go West (Jan 19-21 in Edmonton, AB) and the CSAE sponsored Tete A Tete (Jan 29 in Ottawa, ON) trade shows.

Now in its third year, Go West is still a relatively new trade show. This was the first year that Tourism Richmond had attended. We attended this show in conjunction with the Sheraton Airport Vancouver.

The show was developed to foster better connections between the Alberta and BC trade association markets, and it has proved to be fruitful for Tourism Richmond with 38 strong contacts developed here from clients both in Alberta and BC.

Booth activation is a key component of the trade show floor nowadays and Go West is no different. We created a very compelling booth activation where we rented a “smoothie bike” from a local company. Attendees were encouraged to blend their own healthy drink using pedal power from the bike to operate the blender. This created a buzz at the show and helped to highlight the great biking that we have in our area.

We had a larger presence at Tete A Tete as we committed to this event at the sponsorship level and also opted for an additional sponsorship  of a pre-conference social event and post conference MPI event. Team Richmond was comprised of Tourism Richmond, River Rock Resort, Executive Hotel, Hilton Hotel, Sheraton/Marriott and Westin Wall Centre.  We were assisted in the booth activation with the team from Connect 7 who once again opted for a Lunar New Year themed booth and luxury purse giveaway. We also launched our new social media channel directed at the meeting planner audience on Twitter @MeetRichmondBC. Be sure to follow us if you haven’t already!

Upcoming projects include creating a new trade show booth, collaboration with Team Richmond on the upcoming trade shows including the Event in Toronto, ON April 2-4 and forming some new and critical sales partnerships locally, regionally and internationally.
