Dear Team Richmond,

Happy mid-autumn festival! And what a September it’s been. The weather turned quickly and while I wish the sun were still out and shining, it’s a good opportunity for us to take some time to refocus on our priorities, and to plan for 2020.

Richmond Discovery Shuttle

The Richmond Discovery Shuttle concluded its first year run on the labour day weekend. As we received ridership numbers and driver comments from Landsea Tours week after week during the summer, it was clear to us that the free tourist shuttle was going to be a success.

Over 2,000 tourists took the Richmond Discovery Shuttle in its first year of operations. The shuttle stopped at five locations throughout Richmond, including the Richmond Olympic Oval, Steveston’s two national historic sites and various stops in central Richmond – giving riders the opportunity to take in celebrated attractions throughout our city.

I’d just like to thank Landsea Tours, their wonderful and knowledgeable drivers, and to our summer visitor services team! They provided a much-needed personal touch to each person who took the shuttle.

Travel Trade Update

While our search continues for a business development manager, targeting travel trade and primary activities continues to be important activities for us. I realize the importance of building and maintaining these relationships, and the need to alert travel trade on new and exciting developments to our destination.

That said, I’d like to thank Carol Yeh, our director of operations, for putting up her hand to take over all travel trade activities effective immediately. As a long-standing member of our team, Carol has the depth of knowledge, expertise and relationships she can continue to grow and build new ones with stakeholders. Thank you, Carol, for your dedication and hard work!

We look forward to a busy autumn with our 2020 strategic planning, and appearing at several business development trade shows including Canada’s West Marketplace being held right here in Richmond.

As always, I welcome thoughtful feedback, comments and questions and my door is always open. Please don’t hesitate to drop me a line.

Sincerely,

Nancy Small
