VICTORIA, BC – Tourism Richmond won the coveted Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) Professional Excellence Award at the 2020 BC Tourism Industry Awards. Presented by Destination British Columbia and the Tourism Industry Association of BC, the award recognizes a community DMO for their commitment, outstanding marketing performance, accountability to and collaboration with the tourism industry in British Columbia.
“While we’re accepting the award, winning this was only possible because of an approach we call ‘Team Richmond,’” said Nancy Small, chief executive officer of Tourism Richmond at the BC Tourism Industry Conference in Victoria. “Industry collaboration is fundamental to our shared success. Destination marketing organizations of all sizes bring together a range of partners and stakeholders to the table to facilitate new programs, policies and initiatives to grow the visitor economy. We’re often the very first, and very last touchpoint in the customer journey.”
Tourism Richmond’s 2018/19 marketing initiatives included:
- Richmond Discovery Shuttle – Launched in summer 2019, the free tourist shuttle transported over 2,000 riders through weekends to easily explore Richmond’s hottest spots. Stops included the Richmond Olympic Oval, Steveston Village and other stops in central Richmond.
- Hosting Canada’s West Marketplace – Richmond was the host city to Canada’s West Marketplace, a three-day, four-night business trade show produced in partnership between Destination British Columbia and Travel Alberta to showcase western Canadian tourism products to international and domestic tour operators and buyers.
- Leadership in Digital – Tourism Richmond’s investment into becoming a next-generation DMO began with a pivot of our marketing strategy to digital marketing. By approaching projects with a data-driven, digital-first mindset, we’re able to create new partnership opportunities, and deliver innovative, efficient and high-impact campaigns.
“We are dedicated to investing in our visitor economy, whether through innovative marketing campaigns, or developing new business opportunities for our stakeholders,” remarked Small. “We are honoured to accept this award and look forward to working with our partners and stakeholders to create exciting tourism opportunities for Richmond for 2020 and beyond.”
