Canada Media Marketplace is about great storytelling.
This annual event brings together the best in US travel media with provincial, territorial, and regional Canadian tourism organizations including major hotel properties, attractions and transportation companies. Alternating between San Francisco and New York, CMM is the place to be to gather new story ideas, inspiration and background material and most importantly, building on those ever-important relationships with US travel media and industry partners.
This year, CMM was held at the Fairmont San Francisco from April 9 to 11. Tourism Richmond’s travel media relations representative attended and held over 20 one-on-one personalized pitch meetings with influential travel media writers and editors over the two-day span. Story ideas and pitches included:
- Layover itineraries, including activities, for 6, 8 and 24 hour stays in Richmond
- Meet the Makers – a craft tasting experience
- Walk, Bike (or Eat) on Richmond’s Easy-Access Trails
- The Dance of the Lions and Dragons: A Look Behind the Scenes at Chinese New Year
Other story ideas were discussed based on the writer’s interests. Due to the popularity of the Dumpling Trail and previous media coverage of the program, a lot of media were interested in learning more about it and how they could take on new angles to tell different stories about the Dumpling Trail.
The discussions and meetings that took place during Canada Media Marketplace presented Team Richmond with a unique opportunity to help keep Richmond top-of-mind for many top tier US travel writers. We look forward to working with these travel writers to help bring Richmond’s story to life in key markets across Canada and the United States – but we’ll need your help to do so!
