Stakeholder Training on Travel Trade FAMs
There were no scheduled FAMs in January and February. Instead, Carol visited stakeholders to provide training on what is expected from a travel trade FAM. The objective of the training was to maximize the impact of the FAMs hosted by Team Richmond.
Emerging Markets for Travel Trade
In February, Carol visited and spoke to eight hotel partners to gain a better understanding of our industry peers' expectations of Tourism Richmond’s travel trade efforts. The hotels were hoping to expand our market share beyond China; a few potential markets were identified, including Taiwan, Vietnam, southeast Asia, Japan, Korea, Mexico, and India. In terms of room nights, travel trade groups occupy an average of 10% - 15% for hotels with meeting space, and 30% - 40% for hotels with limited or no meeting space.
Tourism Richmond intends to organize one sales mission to Taiwan in October. Once the details are confirmed, an invitation will be sent out to our stakeholders to join this sales mission. Other activities will be planned and announced at a later stage.
Celebrating Chinese New Year in BC (加拿大BC迎新春)
Tourism Richmond partnered with Destination BC to a host a Chinese New Year lion dance and dinner reception at Aberdeen Centre on January 29, 2020. Mayor Brodie gave a welcome speech to over 100 guests from China. As a result, our Chinese visitors at the event expressed their appreciation towards Richmond’s warm hospitality.
