It’s that time of the year again! Your favourite food and retail vendors gather together starting this Friday, April 29 at the Panda Market on Vulcan Way. Known as the “original” night market, they have entertained over 5 million visitors from all over the world with authentic street-food and exciting performances since its inception in 2008.

This year, the International Summer Night Market has expanded and re-branded as the Panda Market. With over 60 food and beverage stalls and a multitude of vendors, visiting the Panda Market feels like going to a traditional Chinese or Taiwanese night market. Whether you’re on the hunt for a new phone case, the newest tech gadgets, or looking to satisfy a craving for delicious street food, this night market has you covered. This year, there will be a wide range of food and beverage choices, from Taiwanese stinky tofu and candied fruit, to deep fried squid tentacles and cotton candy bouquets.

The Panda Market opens this year on Friday, April 29, 2016 and will be open every weekend for 60 days until Sunday, September 11, 2016. Admission to the market is free, with a $4 fee for parking at designated lots.

This year’s night market will be featuring many other special events, celebrations and competitions. Every two weeks starting on April 29, Panda Market will be holding “Battle All Stars”, an event featuring modified cars to educate the public about car culture. Additionally, there will be an official grand opening scheduled for June 18, 2016 in conjunction with Korean Culture Day. The grand opening ceremonies will be co-hosted by Korea Daily, with lion dancing, cake-cutting and Korean musical performances. More events and highlights are listed below.


hugathonOn Saturday, June 4, 2016, the Panda Market will be attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the most number of hugs given by an individual in an hour. The Hug-a-Thon is a fundraiser that will be supporting the BC Children’s Hospital. This event aims to beat the current record, 2,436 hugs by an individual in India. Click here to register for free.

G-Zero Go Kart Racing Championshipsg-zero

On July 15 and 16, the G-Zero Championships kicks off their first double header round of the season with electric go-karts racing for the championship in front of thousands of fans. Panda Market will be the first stop for the series, featuring a custom-designed 600-metercircuit, as well as a grandstand for spectators.  The G-Zero Championship will see all-electric zero-emissions go-karts battle, reaching speeds of up to 110 km/hour.

Summer Knock-Out Dance Competition

Summer Knock-Out (SKO) is a tournament-style urban dance competition, the first of its kind in Greater Vancouver. Over three rounds, dance teams will compete and advance based on scores given by professional judges. In the final round, two dance teams will compete for first place the title of SKO Champion.

  • Preliminary Round: Friday, July 8, 6-11pm
  • Round 1: Sunday, July 10, 7-10pm
  • Round 2: Sunday, July 31, 7-10pm
  • Finals: Friday, August 19, 7-10pm

Taiwan Festival & Philippines Day

On Saturday, June 25, Panda Market will be celebrating all things Taiwanese. The event will feature Taiwanese cultural performances while raising funds for the Richmond Food Bank. For Philippine Day on Sunday, June 26, 2016, join the crowds for dancing, singing and Filipino cultural performances.
