The fast pace and demands of modern life can leave many of us feeling drained and worn out. In fact, our hunched-up muscles might seem like they’re permanently knotted tighter than a tangle of twisted rope. But it doesn’t need to be this way—especially if you find the right relaxing and rejuvenating spa treatments.

For many locals and visitors, the BC-based Absolute Spa Group—an international brand popular with celebrities like Michael Bublé and Gwyneth Paltrow—is the perfect place to unwind, de-stress, and pamper yourself. And Richmond is home to several convenient locations, including branches at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel, River Rock Casino Resort, and four handy outlets situated inside Vancouver International Airport (YVR).

“It’s much more acceptable to take the time to look after yourself these days,” says Absolute Spa Group Regional Manager Jill Bryan. “And we feel that we’re part of this very important self-care movement.”

Treatments

The company’s most popular treatments are their Signature Massages, which come in several customizable variations. Using essential oils (chosen by you), these soothing treatments directly connect with your nervous system, providing benefits to mind, body, and soul. Additional options can include a Clear Your Mind package that adds a foot soak and mini facial or a Hawaiian Coconut Lomi Lomi Massage—a light massage treatment that echoes gently rippling waves.

“Treatments like these are very popular with travellers—they’re always a great way to recover from jet lag,” says Bryan, adding that Absolute’s oxygen facials and hydration treatments are also recommended for those who’ve just stepped off an exhausting long-haul flight. And if you’re heading out on a sunny trip, you can even drop by for a spray tan before you go.

Locations

Attached to YVR’s main terminal, the spa inside the Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel is highly convenient for pre-flight preparation or post-flight recovery. Facilities include five private treatment rooms, a group manicure and pedicure area, and a popular couples’ suite. Not surprisingly, this airport location hosts lots of out-of-town visitors.

Out-of-towners also visit River Rock Casino Resort’s Absolute location. But, says Bryan, this location also welcomes a larger number of BC residents enjoying their own pampering staycations. There’s a similar number of treatment rooms here, as well as a popular hydrotherapy suite—a good reason for travellers to hop on the Canada Line from the airport after their flight (the resort is just a 10-minute train ride away).

But you don’t even need to leave the airport if you’re ready for a treatment. Absolute Spa has four locations dotted inside YVR, with a full roster of services catering to people on the move. The next time you’re at the airport, consider one of their highly inviting chair massages and napping pod services as well as a full menu of dedicated anti-fatigue and jet lag treatments.

And if you’re booked on an early morning flight to the United States, the company’s US post-security location opens at 4:30am—perfect for those essential pre-sunrise treatments before you jet off on vacation or to a business meeting!

Special extras

Absolute also offers a wide array of spa packages. These are popular as gifts or among those looking to add some deluxe pampering to their Metro Vancouver visit or local staycation. These include their Absolute Man or Woman packages (massage, facial, pedicure, and manicure included) as well as additional packages with enticing names such as Escape, Body Bliss, and Heaven from Head to Toe.

And if you want to make sure you have all the products you need to ensure your next trip is as restful and restorative as possible, you can also buy everything from eye masks to relaxation products at each location.

First-timer?

Once you’ve completed a highly restorative spa treatment, it’s not unusual to start counting down the days to the next one. The benefits of slowing down and letting an expert soothe away your stresses are instantaneous. But not everyone realizes that: a spa visit is one of those experiences you have to try for yourself before you understand what it can do for you.

And Absolute Spa—regularly voted as the best spa provider in local newspaper and magazine polls—is a great place for first-timers to take the plunge and discover many of these skin-tingling, muscle-relaxing positives. “If you haven’t started looking after yourself like this, you should really give it a try. Just go for it!” says Bryan.
