Richmond’s restaurants have scooped more than half the accolades in the all-important 2018 Chinese Restaurant Awards Diners' Choice selections.

The awards – where the public chooses their favourite Chinese and Taiwanese eateries throughout Metro Vancouver – saw Richmond restaurants triumphing in 12 of the 21 available categories, including some of this year’s new categories.

And the winners are...

Richmond’s winners included Suhang Restaurant (Best Shanghainese Stir Fry Egg White); Geng Shi Ji (Best New Restaurant); Chef Tony Seafood Restaurant (Best Dim Sum Restaurant); Fortune Terrace Chinese Cuisine (Best Cantonese Restaurant); Z&Y Shanghai Cuisine (Best Shanghainese Restaurant); Memory Corner (Best Taiwanese Restaurant/BBT Café); and HK B.B.Q. Master (Best B.B.Q. Shop).

Local restaurant chains with branches in Richmond also topped the voting in several other categories. These included Happy Tree House BBQ (Best Sichuan/Hunan Restaurant); Boiling Point (Best Hot Pot Restaurant); Copa Café (Best Hong Kong-Style Café); Maxim’s Bakery (Best Bakery Shop); and Me + Crepe (Best Fantuan Delivery Restaurant).

Voting with their taste buds

With more than 35,000 votes cast in this year’s online poll, the Diners’ Choice Awards are highly coveted among Metro Vancouver restaurants. The winners are like an honour roll of the area’s hottest culinary destinations and tasty new discoveries – providing visitors and locals with a full menu of great dine-out options to try.

Presented by Hong Kong Airlines and celebrating its 10-year milestone in 2018, this year’s Diners’ Choice poll ran from February 5 to March 4. Social media played a key role in the voting, with many participants sharing their tastiest recommendations and photos of their favourite dishes online.

Beyond Richmond

Although Richmond was this year’s big winner, other Metro Vancouver areas topped the voting in some categories, indicating the richness of the region’s wider dining scene. These include Vancouver’s Prince Chinese Seafood Restaurant (Best Spring Rolls) and Sun Bo Kong Vegetarian Restaurant (Best Vegetarian Restaurant) plus Burnaby’s Xiang Yuan Qiao Bridge Rice Noodle (Best Food Court Stall).

Winners from this year’s Diners’ Choice Awards will attend the 10th annual Chinese Restaurant Awards ceremony at Richmond’s River Rock Casino Resort on April 17 – a sparkling party for what’s become the most celebrated Asian dining scene outside Asia in recent years.
