Sinfully The Best

With two branches located a short walk apart in Steveston Village—the main store (also known as ‘Original Sin’) is at 3993 Chatham Street—this Richmond favourite is full of delicious temptations. Don’t fight the urge (you need those extra calories for winter) and instead dive right into the bars, ganache-filled individual sweeties, and wide array of special Christmas-themed goodies, including cute chocolate igloos in several sizes and varieties.

Extra treat: There’s also a full menu of chocolate and confectionary classes offered at Sinfully the Best—be sure to book ahead.

Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut

Launched three decades ago and dedicated to sustainable, fair trade chocolate and preservative-free ingredients, this Alberta-based chain is lined with treats for every sweet-tooth predilection. Their selection boxes at Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut are especially recommended for gift-giving, including collections of sea salt caramels and hand-rolled chocolate truffles. Perhaps the best of the bunch, though, is their 12 Days of Christmas box, with flavours ranging from Mango Peppercorn to Early Grey Tea.

Extra treat: If you’re buying a gift for a kid that loves chocolate AND wildlife, consider the cute Animal Farm box, filled with 12 solid chocolate critters.

Wild Sweets By Dominique & Cindy Duby

The pastry chef/chocolatier team behind this operation have won acclaim around the world. Wild Sweets concocts an eye-popping array of decadent, highly creative cakes, truffles, and must-try single origin bars, including a tempting selection of Christmas treats. Looking for the perfect present for that incurable chocolate connoisseur on your gift list? Pick up a gift box of delectable, and surprisingly colourful, individual chocolates—check ahead for Factory Store hours, as the store is not open every day.

Extra treat: Check out their regular tasting and pairing events.

Lindt Chocolate Shop

A highly popular store at the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Vancouver Airport, one of the world’s most famous confectionary brands lures legions of fans here on any given day. They come for the diverse array of glitzy selection boxes (Swiss Luxury Selection recommended), the tempting menu of Christmas-packaged gifts, and the free sample typically handed out at the door (don’t try donning a false beard and sneaking back for more). Want to create your own gift selection? Check out the huge pick-and-mix stands.

Extra treat: Pick up a seasonal treat such as Lindor Candy Cane or 60% dark peppermint truffles.

Purdy’s Chocolatier

Vancouver’s century-old chocolate chain has two branches in Richmond, located at Lansdowne Centre and CF Richmond Centre. There’s hardly anyone on your list that wouldn’t be delighted to receive a triangular box of hedgehogs full of creamy hazelnut filling. But don’t forget the other goodies here as well: boxes of Sweet Georgia Browns and Himalayan Pink Salt Caramels included. Christmas-wise, Purdy’s has some great gift baskets (some shaped like sleighs) plus lots of stocking stuffers, ranging from foil wrapped bells to Santas on sticks.

Extra treat: The Chocolate Survival Kit, complete with several bars and treats, is the perfect Christmas gift—for yourself.
