With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, now is the perfect time to shower your sweetheart with love, attention and perhaps even a surprise proposal. Need a few suggestions for how to show your darling how much you care? Read on for our Cupid-approved rundown of unique Richmond activities and gift ideas.

Romantic Dining

Among the Richmond restaurants offering special Valentine’s dinner packages, consider the $65 per person prix fixe feast at CAVU Kitchen Bar. Running February 10 to 14, main course options include duck, salmon or Moroccan stew––and there’s a complimentary glass of sparkling wine for each guest.

You’ll also find a delicious $99 Valentine’s menu at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport’s swish Globe@YVR restaurant. From February 11 to 14, their four-course dinner includes a steak and truffles entrée. Alternatively, Versante Hotel is offering Valentine’s options at each of its three restaurants––plus a unique Sweet Champagne Valentine’s Gift Box that includes macrons, champagne and a loaner Polaroid camera to record your romantic night out.

Special Sleepover

After dinner, treat your sweetheart to a pampering sleepover at Versante Hotel or the Fairmont Vancouver Airport––or one of the 15 additional properties that are also participating in a special promotion running in Richmond until March 1. Under the deal, book a stay at any of these hotels and you’ll receive an American Express gift card worth up to $225. It’s the perfect way to spoil your loved one at the same time as stretching your budget––just be sure to spend the money you save on an extra gift or two for your partner.

Sweet Activities

If your significant other has a sweet tooth, book ahead for a special afternoon at Lulu Island Winery. Their February 11 Truffle Making Workshop promises a fun, hands-on introduction to chocolate and truffle-making, complete with wine-tasting and some delicious take-home treats. And why not pick up a bottle of their luscious ice-wine to-go while you’re here?

Later on the same day, the winery is also screening the movie Crazy Stupid Love, with tickets including a glass of wine and sweet treats. You can book ahead for one or both of these events. And on February 14, there’s also a special Galentine’s Day screening of Clueless here––with dressing up encouraged! Still thirsty? Country Vines Winery, located at Richmond Country Farms, is also hosting one-hour Wine & Chocolate Tasting sessions from February 9 to 14.

Tasty Treats

Looking for the perfect chocolate gift? The shelves at Steveston’s friendly and ever-welcoming Sinfully the Best store are currently brimming with house-made and beautifully gift-wrapped Valentine’s treats. You’ll find everything here from Cupid-decorated chocolate medallions to large chocolate keys adorned with the phrase “Key to my heart.”

We also love the boxes of foil-wrapped solid chocolate hearts (milk or dark) as well as the menagerie of whimsical chocolate figures––including a cute teddy bear holding a pink chocolate heart. Not sure what to choose? Why not make up a selection box of decadent bonbons or go for a decorated cookie shaped like a pair of highly kissable lips?

Bakery Delights

Treat fans should also consider the charming Little Fox Bakehouse, tucked inside the entrance of President Plaza, a few steps from the Canada Line’s Aberdeen Station. Famous for its creative croissant flavours and lovely little cream puffs (we love the milk tea variety), they are also catering to Valentine’s fans this year.

Order ahead via their website and you’ll be able to snag their utterly delightful Valentine’s Special Set. Priced at $28, it includes an eye-rollingly delicious array of sweet treats, including a bear-shaped strawberry macaron, chocolate cups filled with matcha tiramisu, a raspberry chocolate mini tart and more.

Perfect Presents

Excellent Valentine’s gifts don’t have to be edible, of course. If you’re looking for perfect pressie ideas, head straight to Steveston Village and explore the brilliant boutiques on and around Moncton Street. You’re certain to find something unique and original for that special person in your life here.

On our recent visit, we spotted handcrafted earrings, handsome bow ties and knitted woollen hearts at Scout & Co. Nearby, A Monkey Tree Emporium showcased heart-shaped votive candles, silky Victoria Creams from Rogers’ Chocolates and fun Valentine’s to-go mugs, complete with hot chocolate and foil-wrapped treats. And if jewelry is on your mind, head to Juvelisto Design where you’ll find sparkling creations in rings, pendants and more.

Finally, if you’re looking for a perfect evening out that doesn’t just involve dining, there are a couple of cool Richmond options on and around Valentine’s Day this year.

February 16 is when celebrated musician Jana Seale plays a delightfully intimate acoustic concert at the Chinese Bunkhouse venue at Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site. While over at Monkey 9 Brew Pub, there’s a chuckle-tastic February 14 comedy improv night called My Funny Valentine, which is sure to prove that a shared sense of humour is the perfect foundation for any relationship!
