The Pull of the Net Speakers' Series: Working Together

Free Speakers' Series on the rich history of commercial fishing in Richmond. The fishing industry attracted many people from around the world to the coast of British Columbia. Along the lower Fraser River with its concentration of canneries, the cultural diversity was especially influential historically. Richmond councillor Harold Steves and local historian Bud Sakamoto will discuss how the cultural diversity in the labour force shaped the local industry in the areas of fishing methods, innovations, and labour organizing.
