Vancouver International Airport
Located right in Richmond, Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is Canada’s second-busiest air hub, serving more than 22 million annual passengers and upwards of 50 different airlines from Canada, the U.S. and around the world.
YVR has been named by SkyTrax as the Best Airport in North America an unprecedented nine consecutive times. Its onsite Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel was also designated Vancouver’s Top Hotel by Condé Nast Traveler readers in 2017 and was named by SkyTrax as the Best Airport Hotel in North America in 2018.
With more than 150 shops, eateries and bars to choose from, YVR is always a relaxed start or end point to any journey. The airport’s diverse duty free shops are ever-popular with passengers awaiting departure, while the facility is also home to a celebrated array of artwork, including many striking First Nations works.
Post-security, passengers can also check out a large aquarium and a smaller jellyfish aquarium, each showcasing regional marine life. Wi-fi and baggage carts are always free at YVR. And there is a strong commitment to accessibility for all passengers and airport visitors.
Flying into YVR is stress-free. Visitors are greeted with clear announcements and easy-to-follow icon-based signs. YVR’s popular Green Coat Volunteers are also on-hand to provide friendly face-to-face information and advice to travellers.
Domestic, U.S. and international flights are housed in the airport’s Main Terminal. Some smaller regional airlines, as well as helicopter and floatplane services, depart from the South Terminal, accessible via a free shuttle bus from the main facility.
There are more than 20 hotels near YVR, many offering free shuttles for guests. Richmond accommodations range from family-friendly options to conference and resort hotels with luxury suites and extensive amenities. And if you’re looking to stay right at the airport, the multi award-winning (and generously sound-proofed) Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel is directly attached to YVR!
The Canada Line rapid transit system runs to and from YVR every few minutes, from early morning to late at night. It links the airport to central Richmond and also downtown Vancouver (just 20 minutes away).
YVR taxi stands are on Level Two of both the Domestic and International Arrivals areas. Taxis use set prices from the airport to many Metro Vancouver areas.
At the airport, you can also hire luxury sedan and limousine services, rent a car from all the well-known providers or hop on a courtesy hotel shuttle to your accommodation.
