Richmond Olympic Oval
Home to the long track speed skating events during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, the Richmond Olympic Oval is a legacy building that has been transformed into a multi-purpose, international centre for sports competitions, recreation, health, wellness and entertainment.
Located on the banks of the Fraser River, this breathtaking venue was the winner of the Institution of Structural Engineers' top award for Sports and Leisure Structures. At 32,000 square feet, the Oval is home to 2 Olympic-sized ice rinks; a 40-foot climbing wall; a 110-metre, 5-lane sprint track and a 200-metre, 5-lane training track; a 23,000 square foot fitness centre; courts for basketball, badminton, indoor soccer and volleyball; a café; meeting and event spaces; and so much more!
The Richmond Olympic Oval welcomes thousands of visitors a month, from those taking advantage of drop-in fitness classes or checking out the Richmond Olympic Experience to high performance athletes attending provincial, national and international sporting competitions.
Olympic Experience at the Richmond Olympic Oval
The newest addition to the Oval is the Olympic Experience, which is part of the International Olympic Committee's Olympic Museums Network, and was the first museum in North America dedicated to the Olympics when it opened in November 2015.
You can try out state-of-the-art Olympic, Paralympic and sport simulators at the Olympic Experience, billed as the most interactive sports museum in North America. Each one was developed so that you can experience what world-class athletes experience as they compete on the international stage. Feel the rush of the Olympic ski jump and the incredible speeds of a bobsleigh track!
There are also interactive challenges to do that test your skills and accuracy, Olympic artifacts such as medals and uniforms to see, and a film to watch that follows athletes as they pursue their Olympic dreams.
