Richmond, BC Weather

Richmond enjoys a mild, coastal climate year-round. Unlike some other parts of BC and Canada, Richmond gets little to no snow in the winter, and doesn’t experience extreme temperatures.  And because the city is not as close to the mountains, Richmond actually receives about 30% less rain than Vancouver!

Average high temperatures hit 23°C/73°F in the summer and fall to approximately 5°C/41°F in the winter. In Richmond, the average annual rainfall is 111cm/44in. The average temperature for the year is 10°C/50°F.

What to Wear/Bring

Spring temperatures are fairly warm; on sunny days you’ll often see people out in short-sleeved shirts. It’s advisable to dress in layers, since mornings and evenings can be a little chilly. And bring an umbrella as you never know when it’s going to rain.

Summertime temperatures are warm and comfortable. Heat waves do occur but are rare; summer temperatures average around 23°C/73°F. Bring warm-weather clothing and be sure to pack a light jacket or sweater, since it can cool down at night even in the summer.

The fall is quite mild in Richmond, much like the spring. Sunny, warm days can often be enjoyed into October, with cooler mornings and evenings. Bring a jacket and an umbrella along with you; light gloves are also a good idea.

Richmond’s winters are mild – you won’t find any igloos here! Unlike the more mountainous parts of BC and other parts of Canada, it rarely snows here. You’ll still want to bring warm clothing including light gloves, something to cover your ears, and a warm jacket with you. If you plan on going to any of the local ski hills at some point during your trip, you’ll also want to bring snow gear with you.
