Spring is unfurling across the region, with tulips, daffodils, cherry blossoms and more popping up in all of our social media feeds. But April in Richmond isn’t just about snapping flowery selfiesthere’s also a full menu of cool things to do across the city this month.

From art shows to live music to the return of a massive multi-month event, read on for 10 top things to do over the next few weeks. 1. FACES OF RICHMOND

April 1 to April 30
Steveston Museum & Post Office, 3811 Moncton Street, Richmond, B.C.

Organized by the Community Arts Council of Richmond, this heartfelt Steveston exhibition features evocative portraits of 27 local seniors in a variety of mediaalong with audio interviews conducted with each subject. Subtitled The Art of Wisdom, the fascinating show profiles residents’ unique lives and stories as well as the diverse approaches of more than two dozen different artists.

2. RICHMOND ART MARKET

April 10 (5:00pm to 8:00pm); April 11 & April 12 (noon to 6:00pm)

“Affordable and original” is the mantra at this popular recurring event where more than 40 independent artists and artisans will be showcasing their creativity. You’ll find a kaleidoscopic array of paintings, ceramics, jewellery, books and much more to peruse herealong with food and drink to keep you fuelled as you search for that perfect item for yourself or a loved one.

3. RICHMOND CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL 

Garry Point Park, 12011 Seventh Avenue, Richmond, B.C.

Admission: free

Don’t miss this family-friendly alfresco celebration of cherry blossoms and Japanese culture. Alongside the park’s photogenic flowering Akebono trees, you’ll find displays and demonstrations featuring Ikebana, bonsai, Taiko drumming and more. Live dance and folk performances add to the fun and there are plenty of opportunities to sample Japanese cuisine while you’re here.

4. THE FLAME: STORYTELLING SHOWCASE

Gateway Theatre, 6500 Gilbert Road, Richmond, B.C.

Admission: free

This exceptional performance event presents real-life personal stories told by non-actors in front of a live audience. Packed with engaging true tales, you can expect to be moved and inspired as you listen to a wide range of unique and absorbing narratives. Hosted by Deborah Williams and aimed at audiences aged 16 and over, tickets are free but you need to register in advance.

5. EARTH WEEK

Various locations, Richmond, B.C.
April 15 to April 26
Admission: free or low-cost

Richmond is serving up a diverse array of more than 30 Earth Week happenings at local parks and venues in 2026. This year’s scheduled activities range from bee workshops to composting classes and from a kid-friendly treasure hunt to an Invasive Blackberry Removal meet-up that’s suitable for all ages. Have fun while you learn more about our city’s nature and ecology.

6. STEVESTON FOLK GUILD PRESENTS TIM READMAN

Staged inside the historic Chinese Bunkhouseone of Richmond’s most evocative live music venuesthe Steveston Folk Guild serves up an evening of toe-tapping treats from British-born folk singer and songwriter Readman. Known for his witty approach and Celtic folk expertise, expect the unexpected during an evening that fuses top musicianship with humorous warmth.

7. RICHMOND ART GALLERY EXHIBITION OPENING

Richmond Cultural Centre, 7700 Minoru Gate, Richmond, B.C.

Admission: free

Tap into your cultural side at this inviting launch event for two new Richmond Art Gallery exhibitions: a group show called I Digress and North America’s first exhibition by SIDE CORE, a Japanese artist collective. Informal curator tours will illuminate the works and the artists behind them. And don’t worry if you can’t make it to this opening event: each show will be running here until July 5.

8. RICHMOND POTTERS’ CLUB: SPRING POTTERY SALE

Slow down and give yourself plenty of time to peruse the sparkling creativity on display at this three-day event. You’ll find everything from unique bowls to colourful vases and from must-have mugs to whimsical figurines that would make perfect presents (note: Mother’s Day is coming up soon). The club’s next sale is not until winter, so be sure to stock up on gifts for the next few months!

9. RICHMOND NIGHT MARKET

One of the city’s all-time favourite annual events returns for yet another exciting season of shopping, live entertainment, family-friendly games and that famously irresistible menu of dazzling drink and dine options just waiting to hijack your Instagram feed. Expect lots of new features at the market this yearincluding a trading card zone and a special soccer-themed celebration.

10. BIRDING FOR BEGINNERS

Iona Beach Regional Park, 900 Ferguson Road, Richmond, B.C.
April 25 (8:30am to 11:00am)
Admission: adults $15; seniors (65+) $11.25

This inspiring event at one of Richmond’s favourite parks is a friendly introduction to the delightful pastime of birdwatching. Your guide will lead you along the trails, showing you how to spot and identify successfully. You can also learn how to use binoculars, if you haven’t really tried them before. Watch for northern harriers while you’re herewe always seem to spot them at Iona!
