Halloween Events and Activities in Richmond

It’s the season when friendly ghosts and grinning skeletons walk the streets of Richmond searching for a pumpkin-pleasing good time. And this year, the city is serving up a bubbling cauldron of spook-tacular Halloween activities. Pick out your perfect outfit, gather your ghoulish buddies and dive right into these cobweb-covered slices of fall-season fun. Trick or treat? Why not both?!

RICHMOND COUNTRY FARMS PUMPKIN PATCH

12900 Steveston Highway, Richmond, BC
Daily until October 31 (weekdays 9:00am to 4:00pm; weekends & holidays 10:00am to 4:30pm)

This much-loved annual happening includes photogenic farm animals and tractor-drawn wagon trundles as well as animatronic dinosaurs, a corn maze and lots of autumnal decorations to point your camera at. And if you visit on weekends, you’ll also find side dishes of live music and train rides to enjoy. Whatever day you arrive, your admission ticket also comes with a Spartan apple and your chosen pumpkin (extra pumpkins are also available).

INTO THE DEEP

Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site, 12138 Fourth Avenue, Richmond, BC

Running throughout October at the Cannery in Steveston, this camera-ready exhibit features a tentacle-trembling array of undersea critters, each created from recycled plastic and ocean waste. Post your exhibition images on social media to receive discounted admission––and snap a selfie in costume at the exhibit and post it on Facebook or Instagram with #CanneryCostumeContest, tagging the Gulf of Georgia Cannery, for the chance to win a gift basket. Need more? There’s also an onsite screening of the vintage Halloween movie “Beetlejuice” on October 19 (tickets $5).

HALLOWEEN AT LANSDOWNE CENTRE

A fang-tastic city centre Halloween hot spot for in-the-know families, there will be plenty of spooky shenanigans to check out at Lansdowne Centre this year. You’ll find selfie-ready decorations to snap photos with, while kids will love dressing up and joining in the trick-or-treat activities on the big day. There’s also a returning feature that always draws the crowds: a themed indoor mini train ride that’s a must for children.

HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR HARVEST

Aberdeen’s Central Atrium hosts a Halloween-themed diorama from mid-October onwards. But make sure you’re also here on October 31 for a full afternoon of family-friendly fun. Free activities include a magic show and selfie opportunities with Scrappy the Scarecrow. Show your store receipts to also qualify for face-painting and balloon art activities. And don’t miss the mall’s trick-or-treating, running from 1:00pm to 5:00pm on the big day.

HALLOWEEN HOOT

Check out this popular drop-in Halloween happening for the whole family. The Pond Trail will be fully adorned with spooky, photo-ready decorations––including inflatables and art installations. And if you haven’t picked up your pumpkins yet, they’ll also be selling them here. Wrap up warmly, but when you need a break from the chilly weather, head inside to the Nature House for displays that include tooth-and-claw taxidermy animals.

Bring your costumed kids along for the return of this family-friendly Halloween happening, a fundraiser for Jeremy’s Memorial Foundation. Kids can enjoy the craft activities, carnival games and haunted house ($2 minimum donation). There will also be plenty of trick-or-treating opportunities. Make sure everyone hits the free photo booth, but don’t miss the chance to bust some monstrous moves on the dance floor as well!

GHOSTS AND GRIPS

Work off all that Halloween candy before the big day even arrives at this unique Richmond activity for the whole family. The Oval’s towering climbing wall will feature climbers of all skill levels competing in a Halloween-themed dyno competition––but there will also be additional Halloween-themed games, activities, music and more. And those with great outfits could even win prizes in a spine-tingling costume contest!

Gather your friends and family and head to this popular Richmond farm for a colourful and entertaining Halloween happening. Activities include face-painting, pumpkin carving, a corn maze, a spooky walking route, seasonal treats, a vendor market and a costume contest–-and there will also be plenty of spine-chilling decorations to point your camera lens at. TRICK-OR-TREAT IN STEVESTON

Bring your costumed kids to Steveston for an entertaining wander around the village, where you’ll find designated merchants handing out candies during what has become a hugely popular Halloween tradition for the whole family. It’s not all about snagging treats, though: throughout October, the village will also be adorned with a collection of creative scarecrows installed for its annual Scarecrow Crawl––see how many you can spot!

MEOWLLOWEEN

Reserve your slot for this Halloween-themed weekend at the city’s purr-triggering cat haven. You’ll meet dozens of felines during your visit (there are more than 450 residing here), with spooky music, costumes and decorations adding to the fun. But that’s not all: there’s also a costume contest, scavenger hunt, a photo booth and even tarot card readings to check out while you commune with the whiskered critters who call this place home.

MINORU HALLOWEEN FIREWORKS FESTIVAL

Marking its 40th anniversary with a cool Alien Invasion theme, the region’s biggest Halloween fireworks extravaganza isn’t just about watching cascading colours in the sky, although that’s certainly the night’s amazing 9:00pm finale. There’s also a full evening of family-forward fun, including live music, circus performers, professional pumpkin carving, carnival games and a huge inflatable spaceship. Costumes are encouraged––candy will be handed out––and there will also be food trucks if you need additional refuelling.
