Value of Tourism / Economic Impact & Highlights
In 2019, Tourism Richmond conducted a Visitor Volume Project to measure tourism’s impact on our economy. Overnight visitation to Metro Vancouver was approximately 11.0 million, an increase of 6% compared to 2017 when we last conducted the study. About 3.4 million of these visitors, or 31%, stayed overnight in Richmond.

It is estimated that visitors from outside Metro Vancouver spent over $1.9 billion in Richmond, representing an increase of 12% versus 2017. Additional highlights include:

• In 2019, Richmond’s Net Promoter Score reached 29, compared to 8 in 2017.
• Richmond attracts visitors from around the globe, with over 60% coming from outside of Canada.
• Vancouver International Airport has been rated the best airport in North America for an unprecedented 11 consecutive years.

It requires true partnership, and it takes a community that understands the value of tourism to the economy and how tourism enriches life for its residents.

Tourism Richmond is committed to engaging with all of our partners – including residents – to develop and enhance our destination and ultimately help Tourism Richmond achieve its purpose of making Richmond an amazing place to live, work, play, and visit. Tourism Richmond helps make communities more livable and welcoming by working with local businesses, the City of Richmond, and other partners and providing support for amenities, programs, and services enjoyed by residents and visitors.
