Welcoming the Sun
Join the festivities on Saturday June 15th from 12noon to 4pm at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site as the solstice sun is welcomed with a celebration of Indigenous arts and culture. This FREE event will highlight local Indigenous performance artists, storytellers, crafters, artisans, and skill-holders in honour of National Indigenous Peoples’ Day (June 21). It is an uplifting celebration of Indigenous music, storytelling, and performances that will also have food trucks, vendors, activities for the whole family!
This year, come and experience:
• Live drumming and dance performances
• Free film screenings
• Coast Salish storytelling for families
• Indigenous vendors (Art prints, stickers, jewelry, wellness, food, and more.)
• Community art projects and workshops
• Indigenous organizations and businesses
Everyone is invited to enjoy an afternoon of dance, songs, stories, and activities in this vibrant community event taking place both indoors and outdoors at the historic Gulf of Georgia Cannery in Steveston village. Welcoming the Sun is supported by the Province of British of Columbia, Parks Canada, and Port of Vancouver.
