A Month of Spot Prawn Season Programming

From May 14 to June 14, Fisherman’s Wharf welcomed locals and visitors looking to purchase Steveston’s famous spot prawns and enjoy a month of waterfront programming. With beautiful weather throughout much of the season, the village was dressed with banners, flags, and information kiosks, creating a vibrant atmosphere along the waterfront. 

Celebrating Local Seafood and Richmond Restaurants

In partnership with the Steveston Harbour Authority, Tourism Richmond delivered programming throughout the month, including weekend live music performances and the Dine About restaurant promotion. Celebrating the local fishing industry, participating chefs created feature dishes using seafood purchased directly from Steveston-based suppliers. Eleven restaurants across Richmond took part in the promotion, showcasing both the exceptional quality of the Steveston catch and the culinary talent found throughout our city. 

Spot Prawn Day Returns to Fisherman’s Wharf

Spot Prawn Day returned on Saturday, June 6, bringing back familiar favourites such as the community paint-by-numbers mural and the Kids Zone. Live music and circus performances entertained visitors throughout the day, while the Culinary Stage was a major highlight. Six local chefs showcased innovative seafood dishes, drawing enthusiastic crowds to cooking demonstrations and prize draws for the chance to win one pound of fresh spot prawns.

Community Partnerships Add to the Celebration

For Spot Prawn Day, Tourism Richmond also collaborated with the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site to align with their programming for World Ocean Day and Doors Open Richmond. Activities included the popular Gyotaku fish-print art workshops, the Ocean Wise Sea Dome, presentations from Parks Canada, and a live art demonstration. 

The Fisherman’s Table Debuts

New for 2026 was The Fisherman’s Table, a ticketed dining experience held on Fishers Walk on Sunday, June 7. The sold-out event welcomed 150 guests for an evening celebrating local seafood, with five local vendors creating seafood dishes paired with curated drinks. Guests enjoyed a memorable waterfront dining experience in the unique setting of Steveston’s working harbour.

Looking Back on Another Successful Celebration

As the spot prawn fishing season wrapped up on June 14, we looked back on another successful Steveston Spot Prawn and Seafood Celebration. With a mix of new experiences and returning favourites, the event continued to strengthen its reputation as a must-attend summer experience for both locals and visitors.
