Describe the role of the Destination Development Specialist

As the Destination Development Specialist, I’m responsible for the design and implementation of destination and experience development initiatives. The role puts Richmond residents front and center as the cheerleaders of our great city, alongside working closely with stakeholders and key partners throughout the tourism industry. My purpose is to ensure the city’s visitor economy thrives through collaboration, and innovation and seizes on exciting new opportunities that elevate Richmond as a destination.

What is your favourite part about being the Destination Development Specialist? What do you enjoy the most about working for Tourism Richmond?

My favourite part of my role is working with a variety of amazing people across Richmond and collaborating on cool projects. From festivals and public art projects, to bike valets and digital passports, every day is different and exciting. The part I enjoy the most is seeing projects come to fruition that add even more reasons why Richmond is such a great place to live, work and play!

Where is your favourite spot in Richmond to eat, walk, bike, etc.?

I don’t need much of an excuse to eat dumplings, so a trip for dim sum or to a food court usually hits the spot. When I’ve eaten too much, a walk or cycle along the West Dike Trail is the best way to get moving again!

What surprised you the most about Richmond, since working at Tourism Richmond?

There is so much energy and passion for Richmond! Whether it’s residents and stakeholders proudly telling you about another their city, or visitors excitedly explaining how much of an awesome time they’ve had, there’s always something to remind you how much Richmond is a can’t miss part of Metro Vancouver.

What is one thing you’re most proud of since working at Tourism Richmond?

I’m proud of developing the EPIC Awards, an annual initiative started in 2022 that recognizes the amazing talent and exciting projects that we’re lucky to have in the Richmond tourism industry. After a few tough years for tourism, and the city as a whole, it was great to see the drive and optimism that is taking the industry going from strength to strength and cultivating a thriving visitor economy for the city.

For any visitors who have never visited Richmond, give them one can’t-miss recommendation on what they should do during their stay!
