Britannia Shipyards is a rare surviving example of a once thriving mixture of canneries, boatyards and residences. Just a few minutes’ walk from the historic fishing vilage of Steveston, this eight-acre National Historic Site features some of the oldest remaining heritage buildings found along the Fraser River. 2022 Summer hours: May 21 to September 5, open daily 10am to 5pm. All other months: Tues-Sun 12-4pm (closed on stat. holidays).

Voyage of the Gikumi guided boat tours:

It’s all about the journey aboard our beautifully restored 1954 work boat, the Gikumi. Embark with us from Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site for a 2.5-3 hour voyage to discover the engaging stories, lore, and legends that make the Fraser River such a potent force for both creation and destruction. Journey with us through the Fraser River delta and learn how the river is a creator, a sculptor, and a provider for the peoples along its banks. Along the way, listen to stories of rum runners, salmon cannons, rescued whales, and abandoned boats. 2022 dates: July 8, 9, 10, 22, 23, 24 and August 5, 6, 7, 9. Tickets: $100 per person.
