MATSUYAMA
Where: 110 – 8500 Alexandra Road
When: From 9:00pm daily
What: Happy hour is in the evening at this popular Japanese restaurant on Alexandra Road (aka Eat Street). There’s a huge array of sushi and sashimi options, plus shareable appetizer plates ranging from miso soup to spring rolls and from salmon teriyaki to chicken karaage. Almost everything is priced under $5 so it’s easy to combine your favourite staples with a few more adventurous options (we love the chopped scallop cones here). Deep-fried banana with ice cream is the perfect dessert, while Matsuyama’s beverage specials include $5 highballs.

What: This family-owned Irish resto-bar has a friendly neighbourhood pub vibe but a menu that goes far beyond standard pub fare. Tuck yourself into a warm corner with your buddies and explore some delicious options. All of O’Hare’s Share Plates are reduced by 25 percent during happy hour, and you’ll have 10 dishes to choose from, ranging from poutine to dry ribs and from chicken lettuce wraps to a ‘mug of prawns’ served with a piquant vodka cocktail sauce. Wine and beer specials add to the mix, including 20 or so draft craft beers mostly from B.C.
FUGGLES & WARLOCK
Where: 103 – 11220 Horseshoe Way

What: One of the Lower Mainland’s best craft beer producers also has a highly inviting tasting bar loved by in-the-know ale nuts. Libation-wise, all tap beers are brilliantly priced at $5 during happy hour here (we especially love the refreshing Pixel Pils and the fruity Last Mango wit bier). If you’re smart, you’ll also time your visit to take advantage of the Brewers Lunch Combo deal. Served between noon and 3:00pm every day, $13.50 buys you a half panini sandwich, a bag of chips and a draft beer. And, once you’re done, you can dive into the happy hour drinks deals that commence at 3:00pm (Monday to Thursday only).
THE STORY CAFE

If you haven’t checked out their highly popular brunch yet, why not give their afternoon happy hour a try? There’s a full page of tempting options to consider, including everything from wings to steak bites and from crab cakes to a shareable charcuterie plate.
