My favourite part of this role has been working within a fantastic team that continually inspires me to excel. Where is your favourite spot in Richmond to (eat, explore, bike, etc.)?

Justine Reimer – Manager, Business Development

My favourite spots in Richmond are the Richmond Olympic Oval and the Steveston Village boardwalk. The Richmond Olympic oval is full of activity and buzz and emulates the legacy of sport in our community and inspiration to work hard to achieve my dreams and goals. The serene boardwalk in Steveston Village is where I find relaxation, gorgeous sunsets over the water, and a deep connection to the city’s unique charm.

It is so hard to determine a favorite spot to eat as there are so many in Richmond! As for my favorite spot to walk, I would say Terra Nova. It is next to a vibrant urban center, yet it offers abundant nature. I enjoy walking or jogging along the River Road, taking in birds and the gorgeous view between the sea and sky.

Abbi Lawrence – Coordinator, Destination Experience

When it comes to Richmond’s culinary scene, it’s nearly impossible to single out just one favourite. Nevertheless, my most recent favourite is Big Way Hot Pot. I particularly enjoy the opportunity to personally select my own hot pot ingredients, making the dining experience fun and unique.

What surprised you the most about Richmond since starting your role?

Justine Reimer – Manager, Business Development

Although I was born and bred in Burnaby, I must admit I knew little about this charming city. To my delightful surprise, I discovered an astonishing culinary scene. Richmond boasts a staggering number of restaurants, with an impressive concentration of Asian cuisine that truly stands out. The city’s Asian culinary offerings are not just abundant but also of exceptional quality, reflecting Richmond’s multicultural identity. It’s no wonder that Richmond has gained recognition, with numerous restaurants earning prestigious awards and accolades for their culinary excellence, solidifying this city as a hidden culinary gem in British Columbia. Every month, I feel like I am introduced to another delicious spot and learn more about the culture and customs of cuisines such as Dim Sum. I have certainly gained a lot of confidence to venture into eateries I would have previously shied away from. This is a lifelong journey of discovery, and I can’t wait to uncover more delicious spots.

One of the most surprising and delightful aspects of my time in Richmond has been the remarkable level of support from both our dedicated leadership and the incredible team. It’s truly heartening to be part of such a supportive community.

Abbi Lawrence – Coordinator, Destination Experience

Even after two years of being at Tourism Richmond, I am still learning so much about Richmond each day. I was pleasantly surprised by the abundant history Richmond has, especially in Steveston. There are many heritage sites visitors and locals can explore to learn about Richmond’s rich fishing history.
