Describe the role of the Director, Marketing & Business Development
In my role, I manage the team that develops and executes Tourism Richmond’s marketing plan, programs, and campaigns. These all work together to bring to life our destination brand—Pacific. Authentic. Richmond BC. In addition, I oversee the Business Development team, which is focused on promoting Richmond as a business events destination and attracting meetings, conferences, and events to Richmond. Recently I’ve also been helping to lead the development and implementation of Tourism Richmond’s regenerative tourism strategy.
What is your favourite part about your role? What do you enjoy the most about working for Tourism Richmond?
As a marketer, it’s a privilege to get to work on promoting such a unique, compelling, and diverse destination and brand. I’m really proud of the work the team has done to bring our brand to life in collaboration with our agency partners to differentiate Richmond and help attract more visitors. Working with the Business Development team to attract business events to Richmond is also very enjoyable – in particular, it gives me the opportunity to collaborate with many of the partners that make-up “Team Richmond”, which is a very important part of what we do.
Where is your favourite spot in Richmond?
There are so many great places to explore in Richmond – I’m still discovering new favourite spots! One that stands out for me is Iona Beach Regional Park. For the last couple of years I’ve done a lot of cycling, and heading out to Iona is one of my favourite rides – where else can you see planes passing overhead, abundant birds and nature, and the great views of the ocean and mountains (and top-up my water bottles!). A close second would be the Richmond Night Market – my kids love to go in the summer.
What is one thing you’re most proud of since working at TR?
There are many campaigns and projects that I’ve worked on that I’m proud of! A few that stand out is launching our new website in late 2021 – I feel it really captures what makes Richmond such an amazing place. Over the past couple of years I’ve been really proud of our destination brand campaign creative – showcasing the people that Richmond so unique – as well as the partnership we did with CTV to take advantage of The Amazing Race Canada coming to Richmond last year. As part of that I got to meet the host of The Amazing Race Canada, Jon Montgomery, which was definitely a highlight.
For any visitors who have never been to Richmond, give them one suggestion on what they should do during their stay.
Eat! There are so many amazing culinary experiences to discover in Richmond, from our food courts to the Night Market, to fish and chips in Steveston and our many amazing restaurants. I also love exploring Richmond’s parks and trails – there are many hidden gems to discover.
