With fall just around the corner, there are still plenty of great ways to enjoy the golden, T-shirted days of summer in our city. From outdoor festivals to a birding celebration and from guided art tours to some fantastic live music, why not check out our 10 top September suggestions below? 1. RICHMOND SOCKEYES HOME OPENER

Forget the Canucks and instead catch the Richmond Sockeyes in their first home game of the new season. Dropping the puck at Minoru Arenas––aka “The Fish Tank”––expect to cheer your heart out as the Junior A team takes to the ice against arch rivals the Delta Ice Hawks. A great way to support local sport without having to pay an arm and a leg for tickets, you might just discover your new favourite team while enjoying a great night with friends and family.

2. QUEEN: IT’S A KINDA MAGIC

Queen fans will be strutting over to the River Rock’s sparkling Show Theatre for a foot-stomping evening of Freddie Mercury-driven celebration. Meticulously recreating the band’s iconic 1986 world tour heyday, this all-ages live tribute show features 20 of the legendary act’s biggest hits––including “Under Pressure,” “We Will Rock You” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Get ready to cheer while clapping your hands above your head!

3. WINGS OVER IONA

Iona Beach Regional Park, 900 Ferguson Road, Richmond, B.C.

Admission: free

Richmond is one of B.C.’s best birding destinations, and you can swoop right in and learn all about it at this excellent annual event. Iona is famous for the diversity of its spotting opportunities, so you’ll likely see plenty of birds during your visit (paid tours are also available if you sign up in advance). You’ll also find additional family-friendly activities, information stands from nature-based organizations and the chance to see how a busy banding station works.

4. RICHMOND FARM FEST

Garden City Lands, 5040 Garden City Road, Richmond, B.C.

Admission: free

This family-friendly event showcases the city’s rich and vibrant agricultural scene with a fun-tastic array of activities and experiences for all ages. Kids will love the Little Farmers zone and wagon rides. But be sure to check out the garden and agriculture displays plus the culinary demonstrations, live music and tasty food and beverage options. And save time for the farmers’ market––the perfect place to find fresh, local-grown produce to take home.

5. CULTURE DAYS

Various locations, Richmond, B.C.
September 18 to October 4
Admission: free

This much-anticipated Canada-wide annual event includes dozens of cost-free Richmond happenings during its 2026 run, ranging from art demonstrations to live music performances and from craft workshops to open house tours. Many activities take place on the weekend of September 19, but others are scheduled throughout the month and into October—check out the Culture Days website for the latest information and consider dropping by for September 18’s launch event.

6. BIG PIRATE RUN

Shiver your timbers at this fifth annual pirate-themed fun run in Steveston. Ideal for runners of all ages and abilities, there are multiple distance options (from 1km to 21.1km) as well as entertainment, door prizes, wooden finisher medals and more. It’s a great way to round up your shipmates for a treasure chest of good times, while also getting some alfresco exercise––eye patch and shoulder parrot not required.

7. PUBLIC ART WALKING TOURS

Capstan Village & Alexandra Neighbourhood
September 19 & 20 (Capstan); September 27 (Alexandra)
Admission: free (registration required)

Richmond’s monthly art walks series is expanding to three tours in September: separate Mandarin and French language tours of the Capstan Village area plus a new English language tour of the Alexandra neighbourhood. Each expert-led tour lasts for around 90 minutes, during which you’ll encounter intriguing public art and hear some of the stories behind the installations. The tours are aimed at participants of all ages, but be sure to register in advance via the City of Richmond Public Art Program’s Eventbrite page.

8. LONDON FARM COUNTRY FEST

Admission: free

Back for its third annual run in 2026, bring all the family along for a fun afternoon in the bucolic setting of London Farm. You’ll find games, sack races, a scavenger hunt, arts and crafts activities and the chance to hang out with the farm’s resident chickens––plus for-sale flowers, plants, produce and more. Save time to explore the museum-like interior of the old farmhouse, complete with antique-lined rooms recalling the hardworking family that once lived here.

9. DIVERS’ CATCH FESTIVAL

Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site, 12138 Fourth Avenue, Richmond, B.C.

Hosted by the BC Dive Fisheries Society, this second annual celebration of our region’s incredible dive-harvested seafood––think geoduck, sea urchins and sea cucumbers––features a taste-tripping menu of delicacies prepared by a powerhouse array of brilliant chefs, including Ned Bell, Bo Li, Chanthy Yen and more. Book ahead (two timeslots are available) and you’ll enjoy a delicious array of dishes, drinks and live entertainment.

10. MID-AUTUMN MELODIES

Minoru Chapel & Gateway Theatre, 6540 & 6500 Gilbert Road, Richmond, B.C.

Join local performers Jason Sakaki and Tiana Jung for this family-friendly Mid-Autumn celebration inside the city’s heritage Minoru Chapel. Their one-hour show will feature popular songs from musicals and Disney movies––sing-alongs included! After the performance, the fun will move across to the nearby Gateway Theatre for paper lantern crafting and festive mooncakes. A great way to enjoy the season with all your friends and family, book ahead through the Gateway Theatre website.
