1. ART AFTER DARK

Celebrating BC Youth Week, this super-cool artsy event for young creatives aged 13 to 24 includes collaborative activities, live DJ music, a digital photo booth and a special guided tour of the gallery’s latest exhibition. Participants––who will also be able to create a piece of wearable art during the event––are advised to RSVP in advance.

2. Make Mom Feel Extra Special at Fairmont Vancouver Airport

3. CAPSTAN VILLAGE PUBLIC ART WALKING TOUR

Led by curator and art historian, Jas Lally, you’ll be expertly guided around the highly creative art installations in one of Richmond’s newest city centre neighbourhoods. This gratis walking tour kicks off at Capstan Station––the city’s recently opened new Canada Line stop––where a dramatic, marine-themed mural is a highly photogenic feature of the station’s unique design.

4. PUBLIC WORKS OPEN HOUSE

A popular, family-friendly day out for in-the-know locals and visitors, the city’s busy Public Works yard throws open its doors for this brilliant behind-the-scenes event. Alongside hands-on displays, live music, heavy machinery, informative booths and tasty food trucks, you and your kids will learn all about Richmond services from recycling to gardening to garbage collection and more.

5. CANNERY RECOLLECTIONS OFFICIAL OPENING

Don’t miss the launch event for Cannery REcollections: Redefining Storytelling Through Objects, a major new exhibition at the National Historic Site that deepens the idea of how everyday items can connect us to people, places and past times. The exhibition is scheduled to run for the next two years, but this opening celebration will include live music, an introductory ceremony and your first chance to peruse the cleverly curated displays.

6. LONDON FARM PLANT SALE

A much-anticipated annual event at one of Richmond’s most popular heritage attractions, you’ll find a full array of herbs, perennials, tomato plants, hanging baskets and more to peruse and purchase here. During your visit, save time to check out the historic farmhouse, lovely gardens, yesteryear agricultural exhibits and a gift shop filled with own-made jams and house-blend London Lady Tea.

7. STEVESTON SPOT PRAWN & SEAFOOD CELEBRATION

Celebrate the start of spot prawn season with a month-long program in Steveston Village! Beginning May 14, enjoy live spot prawn sales at Fisherman’s Wharf, weekend performances by local musicians, and delicious seafood dishes during the Dine About promotion (May 31–June 15). 8. ROYAL CANADIAN CIRCUS

Hop off the Canada Line at Lansdowne Station and head into the giant big top for an exciting circus show packed with colourful spectacle and heart-pounding thrills. 9. SARAH MCLACHLAN CONCERT

10. SOLING ONE METRE CANADIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Imperial Landing, Steveston Village

Head to the Steveston shoreline between Fisherman’s Wharf and Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site and you’ll discover one of the coolest events in the region: a national sailing regatta featuring radio-controlled model yachts (maximum length one metre) competing in a series of thrilling races. Powered only by the wind and controlled by skilled operators––just like full-sized yachts––choose your favourites and watch them compete throughout the weekend.
