What’s not to love about Happy Hour? Discounted drinks and eats make for the perfect wind-down after the stresses of the day. Here are some recommended places for sippin’ on the cheap in Richmond.
1. MILLTOWN BAR & GRILL

From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, draft beer is only $4.35, and glasses of Blasted Church Hatfield’s Fuse and Big Bang Theory are $7. The food menu matches the rustic wood décor (the site was formerly a wood mill), with accessible, West Coast options that range from Loaded Barge Nachos (small $14.50; large $19), Margherita pizza ($14.25), to a Maple Salmon Salad with maple glazed salmon, strawberries, roasted almonds, goat cheese and mixed greens with honey apple vinaigrette ($16).

2. O’HARE’S GASTROPUB
This tribute to Irish conviviality has been a Richmond institution since 1987. While Guinness is always a good bet, their 3 to 6 p.m. Happy Hour specials include all sleeves of B.C. craft beer (eg. Postmark Pilsner) for $5, as well as house red and white wine. During Happy House, a selection of the gastropub appies are $8 each, including a half pound of peel and eat prawns with vodka cocktail sauce, crispy Salt and Pepper Dry Ribs with soy dipping sauce, and Potato Skins loaded with cheese, bacon, green onion and sour cream.

The Halibut Tacos with blackened halibut, mango salsa, chipotle aioli and coleslaw are a crowd favourite. If you’re a fan of wings, on Wednesdays you can get them for 60 cents each (after 4:30 p.m.), along with sleeves of Sleeman Honey Brown lager ($4.56, all day) and their Sunset cocktail, consisting of raspberry-infused vodka and 7-Up ($4.78, all day).
