Search out this hidden gem and you’ll discover a tempting array of homestyle Hawaiian comfort food alongside a super-friendly welcome. Steveston is the fish and chips capital of the Lower Mainland and this floating Fisherman’s Wharf eatery is a magnet for fans of succulent, golden-fried cod, salmon, snapper or halibut––all served with bottomless fries. Arrive off-peak to avoid the rush, and consider their tacos, burgers and hot dogs as well. Looking for alternatives? Dave’s Fish & Chips and Garry Point Grill Fish & Chips are also popular if your hunger pangs hit in a different part of the village.

LITTLE MEXICO CANTINA

The menu here is a greatest hits collection of authentic Mexican dining, ranging from fajitas and burritos to enchiladas and around 17 or so taco options. On sunny days, gather your friends for a shareable feast of tasty small plates on the patio. Also consider dropping by for what may be the village’s best happy hour––2:00pm to 5:00pm daily and all-day Wednesday––complete with a huge array of options.

KISAMOS GREEK TAVERNA
3420 Moncton Street, Richmond, B.C.
Duck into this unassuming, family-run Moncton Street restaurant and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a friendly Mediterranean island. Specializing in classic Greek dishes such as moussaka, souvlaki, spanakopita and slow-roasted lamb, we also recommend ordering some mezethes appetizers to share at your table (expect to fight over the last piece of crispy-fried kalamari, though). The lunch menu here is also excellent value, with multiple dishes priced under $20.

KOREAN HOT CHICKEN

Occupying Win Win Chick-N’s former location, this popular replacement is equally committed to highly satisfying comfort food. A Korean specialty, the menu is all about juicy, deep-fried chicken coated in crispy outer layers and sauces such as soy garlic, onion mayo or chipotle jalapeno. Half-and-half options are available if you want check out two different flavours, while chicken sandwiches and tenders with fries are additional tempting alternatives.

MONCTON PIZZERIA

Craving a pit stop pick-me-up? Instant salivating is de rigueur when you spot the L-shaped counter through the window at this rustic-look storefront. It’s topped with around a dozen thin-crust, wood-fired pizzas in varieties such as smoked salmon, pesto chicken, mac and cheese and more––great vegetarian options included. $5 a slice will have you eating like a pie-loving king, while two slices will likely fill you up for the rest of the day.

BRITANNIA BREWING

Craft beer fans love this patio-forward watering hole for its celebrated own-made brews such as Riptide IPA, Deckhand Lager and Sea Maiden Watermelon Sour. But they take their kitchen just as seriously at Britannia, with an excellent brunch service plus main dishes including wild sockeye burgers, flat iron steaks and hearty bowls of mussels and clams—any of which pair perfectly with a four-glass sampler flight of their delicious libations.

Authentic sides here include corn bread and potato salad and your all-important sauce choices include hot honey, beer mustard and six more.
