Located at the landmark Richmond Olympic Oval, this attraction is brimming with fascinating exhibits (we love the Olympic mascots) as well as hands-on activities for sports fans of all ages. Kids will love testing their strength (just how heavy is a shot put, for example), balance and agility, while older children will enjoy the adrenalin-rushing kayak, bobsleigh and racecar simulators.

TERRA NOVA ADVENTURE PLAY ENVIRONMENT

Terra Nova Rural Park, 2631 Westminster Highway, Richmond, BC

Arguably the Lower Mainland’s best public playground, this brilliantly equipped recreational greenspace is packed with things to do. From a climbing wall to a twisting hill slide and from a grass maze to a giant treehouse, give your kids plenty of time to explore here. And when it’s time for a breather, check out the nearby nature trails where there are lots of interesting birds to spot.

For those who prefer a gentler pace, Richmond is also home to more than 80 km of designated cycling routes. Steveston Tram

Local and visiting children love this free-entry heritage attraction, where they can climb aboard a real-life, beautifully restored vintage tram from the region’s yesteryear transit system. There are lots of other things to do here as well––including hands-on exhibits, a storybook nook and a dress-up corner complete with replica conductor outfits.

LARRY BERG FLIGHT PATH PARK

Russ Baker Way, Richmond, BC

This hidden gem park is perfect for airplane-loving kids. Located past the end of Vancouver International Airport’s south runway, it has seats resembling paper planes and mini bike trails that look like runways. Aircraft frequently fly overhead and there are handy information panels to help you identify them. Best of all, children can climb across a huge half-globe featuring dozens of countries!

RICHMOND NATURE PARK

Richmond Nature Park, 11851 Westminster Highway, Richmond, BC

Junior flora and fauna fans should beeline to this recently upgraded city favourite where the attractions include easy-access walking trails and busy feeding stations where birds abound (look for two types of hummingbirds here). The park’s admission-free Nature House is also a highlight, complete with interactive exhibits exploring the city’s wild side.

THE WORLD OF KIDTROPOLIS

This charming make-believe mini-town of scaled-down buildings is a haven for imaginative play. From a fire hall to an animal hospital and from a pizza parlour to a police station, children can zip around in pedal cars, duck inside fully equipped shops and pretend to their heart’s content.
