With summer in full swing, there are plenty of ways to plan some great days out in Richmond this month. From festivals to winery picnics and from alfresco live music to guided art tours, check out our 10 top suggestions below. 1. SUMMER PICNIC SERIES AT LULU ISLAND WINERY

The perfect way to enjoy a laid-back Sunday afternoon with all your friends and family. Bring a blanket to stake out your spot inside the winery’s leafy grapevine tunnel, and you’ll be treated to live music, an individual charcuterie box (one box per ticket) plus the chance to sip some delicious, Richmond-made Lulu Island wines to accompany your revelry (we love their Pinot Noir Rosé). Book ahead: these picnics are very popular!

2. RICHMOND SUNFLOWER FESTIVAL

Richmond Country Farms, 12900 Steveston Highway, Richmond, B.C.
From August 2 onwards (Monday to Friday, 12:00 to 7:00pm; weekends and holidays, 10:00am to 7:00pm)
Admission: Weekdays: $14 for ages 13+, $12 for children ages 3–12 and seniors. Weekends and holidays: $17 for ages 13+, $15 for children ages 3–12 and seniors. Children ages two and under are free. Prices are subject to GST.

Now open for the season, this annual Richmond Country Farms flower fiesta features swathes of selfie-ready blooms, along with food trucks, live music, wagon rides and more. 3. SUMMER CONCERTS IN THE PLAZA

Minoru Centre for Active Living, 7191 Granville Avenue, Richmond, B.C.
August 5, 12, 19, 26 (plus September 2 and 9)
Admission: free

Presented by the Minoru Seniors Society, swing by the outdoor plaza at the Minoru Centre for Active Living from 6:30pm on any of the dates above and you’ll discover a cost-free alfresco summer concert. August shows include (in performance order) Chantal Marie, Playlist, Jeremy Facknitz and the New Marauderz, and you can also cool off with $2 ice creams from the concession stand while you’re enjoying the performance.

4. OVAL COMMUNITY DAY

Richmond Olympic Oval, 6111 River Road, Richmond, B.C.
August 9 (10:00am to 3:00pm)
Admission: free

Don’t miss this family-friendly day out at Richmond’s landmark Winter Olympics venue. Alongside circus artists, live performances and food trucks, you’ll find sport and fitness demonstrations plus hands-on activities for all ages––including a huge inflatable obstacle course. You can also fulfill your sporting dreams by snapping selfies on an Olympic podium (replica medals included) as well as touring the cool exhibits in the Richmond Olympic Experience.

5. FAMILY FARM DAY

London Farm, 6511 Dyke Road, Richmond, B.C.
August 9 (10:00am to 4:00pm)
Admission: adults $8; seniors (65+) and youth (aged 11 to 17) $6; children (aged 5 to 10) $4; children 4 and under free; family ticket (with up to 5 members) $20

This kid-friendly annual event brings London Farm’s heritage house, historic barns and bucolic grounds to life with a full day of fun activities. From live music to pony rides to face painting––plus hands-on arts and crafts for children who like to keep busy––there’s plenty to see and do here. Don’t miss the chance to explore the recreated rooms of the antique-lined farmhouse, and save time to snap some colourful photos in the flower-studded garden.

6. GARTENFEST

Austria Vancouver Club, 5851 Westminster Highway, Richmond, B.C.

Admission: $5 (cash or debit card only)

If you’ve ever driven past the Austria Vancouver Club––with its shutter-framed windows and red-and-white awning––and wondered what goes on inside, now is your big chance to find out. All are welcome to the club’s charming Gartenfest event, complete with live music, traditional dance performances and family-friendly games and activities. Hungry? You’ll also find authentic bratwurst and sauerkraut here, alongside other tasty treats (ice cream and desserts included).

7. MUSIC AT THE CANNERY: HALIFAX WHARF RATS

Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site, 12138 Fourth Avenue, Richmond, B.C.

Admission: tickets $20

Vancouver-based goodtime band the Halifax Wharf Rats are starring in this year’s only Music at the Cannery show, a toe-tapping outdoor concert in the Steveston attraction’s evocative Tank Deck area. Expect an energetic, smile-triggering performance of folk tunes, East Coast music and classic rock songs as the sea breeze percolates through the air and the sun begins to set. Seats are limited for this show, so be sure to book ahead.

8. RICHMOND GARLIC FESTIVAL

The Sharing Farm, 2771 Westminster Highway, Richmond, B.C.
August 15 (10:00am to 3:00pm)
Admission: by donation ($5 per person suggested)

If you haven’t yet experienced this annual grassroots celebration of all things garlicky, consider making 2026 the year you finally visit. A lovely day out for all the family, you’ll find everything from farm tours to bird of prey demonstrations and from live music to a highly popular kids’ zone––complete with lots of fun interactive activities. And alongside the food trucks and fresh produce stands, this is also your big chance to discover garlic ice cream!

9. CAPSTAN VILLAGE PUBLIC ART WALKING TOUR 

Meet outside Capstan Canada Line Station, Richmond, B.C.
August 15 (10:30am to noon)
Admission: free (registration required)

The fifth in a series of popular monthly art walks staged at various locations around Richmond (peruse the full line-up here), August’s event is hosted by curator and writer Andrea Valentine-Lewis. She will lead you on an entertaining and informative stroll around the intriguing public art dotted around the city’s Capstan Village area. The walk lasts around 90 minutes (water bottles recommended) and it’s aimed at participants of all ages.

10. RICHMOND MARITIME FESTIVAL

Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site, 5180 Westwater Drive, Richmond, B.C.
August 22 and 23 (11:00am to 6:00pm)
Admission: free

The 23rd annual edition of this sparkling, seafaring-themed extravaganza offers a full weekend of family-friendly fun. Arrive early and dive into everything from live music to craft demonstrations and from food trucks to hands-on activities for kids of all ages. Make sure you save time to check out the historic wooden boats bobbing alongside the dock as well as the hugely evocative heritage buildings lining the Britannia Shipyards boardwalk.

Getting Around: Richmond Discovery Shuttle

As you plan your August adventures, keep the FREE Richmond Discovery Shuttle in mind as a convenient way to explore some of the city’s key destinations. Running on weekends and statutory holidays until September 7, 2026, its two routes connect central Richmond, Steveston Village and McArthurGlen Designer Outlet, with stops at locations including Lansdowne Station, River Rock Casino Resort, Britannia Shipyards, and the Gulf of Georgia Cannery.
