Blue-sky summer days in BC can mean heading outside to soak up some rays or feasting on a rich bounty of locally-grown seasonal produce. But if you’re really smart, you’ll combine both with a visit to a Metro Vancouver U-pick farm.

There are several Richmond options for those craving a family-friendly outdoor activity with tasty take-home treats. Keep in mind that some farms only take cash and hours can vary—contact them before you head out to make sure they’re open.

As for what’s available, strawberries are almost done for the year; raspberries and cherries are ripe and ready; and blueberries are just around the corner. Many farms also sell produce they’ve picked themselves, including other fruits and a wide array of veggies.

If you can’t make it to a U-pick, there are also lots of fresh-focused farm stands and roadside vendors to visit throughout the city—including the ever-friendly produce stalls at Kwantlen St. Farmers Market and Steveston Farmers & Artisans Market.

But if you’re ready to pick your own berries this summer, slap on the sunscreen, warm-up your picking muscles and dig out that floppy sunhat at one (or all) of these three Richmond hot spots.
