Dining out with the family isn’t always easy, especially if your kids have fully embraced the picky eating approach. But while some restaurants would prefer your children to be seen and not heard (or perhaps even kept at home), there’s a full menu of Richmond eateries that welcome families with open arms, providing special menus for junior diners with discerning appetites. Read on for a few of our favourite kid-friendly places to eat in the city.

Cora

A good value family-friendly chain with a popular Richmond location, Cora is a great place to bring the kids for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Their dedicated child menu includes options such as pancakes, eggs and bacon or French toast, typically garnished with fresh fruit and served with beverage choices ranging from juice to chocolate milk. There’s also a brilliant Teens’ Favourites menu here that includes breakfast poutine, brunch burgers and stuffed crêpes.

Toku Japanese Restaurant

221 – 5300 No. 3 Road, Richmond, BC

A family-forward restaurant with a dedicated play area plus a great menu of junior dining options, Lansdowne Centre’s Toku Japanese Restaurant is a popular local option. You’ll find well-priced, perfectly portioned set meals for children aged 12 and under that feature udon, yakisoba or sushi––each including sides of fruit and vegetables plus juice and jelly. Junior train fans will love the colourful Shinkansen Set meal, served on a locomotive-shaped tray!

THE BUFFET AT RIVER ROCK 

8811 River Road, Richmond, BC

If your kids are feeling especially ravenous, bring them to this all-you-can-eat buffet inside the River Rock Casino Resort. Popular with family groups, lunch and dinner buffet options are available and there are special prices for those aged 12 and under––with kids aged five and under dining for free. With grand views of the sparkling Fraser River, the dishes here change regularly but there are typically sushi, salad, pasta and meat options plus lots of delicious desserts.

BOSTON PIZZA

2000 – 11662 Steveston Highway, Richmond, BC

Some kids eat pizza as if it’s the only food group. But while many restaurants limit their junior pizza options to pepperoni or cheese and tomato, at Boston Pizza children can customize their choice with favourite toppings including chicken, feta, bacon, mushrooms and more. And it’s not just about pizza here; divided into Smaller Appetite and Bigger Appetite, the kids’ menu also includes wings, burgers, spaghetti and meatballs and even cheesy bug-shaped pasta in Alfredo sauce!

Globe@YVR

3111 Grant McConachie Way. Richmond, BC

Treat your airplane-loving kids at the swish Globe@YVR restaurant––located inside the Fairmont Vancouver Airport––and they’ll enjoy a thrilling side dish of runway views alongside their meal. There are child-portion breakfast, lunch and dinner options available here, as well as dedicated drink and dessert choices. But for a special occasion, consider the Junior Afternoon Tea for those aged six to 12. It includes a decadent array of sandwiches, scones, treats and more.

Chop Steakhouse & Bar

10251 St. Edwards Drive, Richmond, BC  

There are five enticing choices on the kids’ menu at Chop Steakhouse, including popular burger and chicken finger options (each served with fries). There’s also a vegetarian pasta dish to consider. But discerning junior gourmands will likely love the salmon and steak dishes––each is served with fresh veggies plus a choice of rice, fries, mashed potato or baked potato. Additionally, all meals include a drink and an ice cream dessert (chocolate sauce included).

Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ

Kids are perfectly catered to at Gyu-Kaku, a family-friendly Japanese joint with a huge array of small plate choices for children with adventurous tastes. Options range from gyoza to bacon chips and from chicken karaage to cheese wontons and more. Kids’ drinks and desserts are priced at $1.50 each (green tea ice cream recommended), while hungrier diners might prefer the two $7 special combo dishes––rice, vegetables and two meaty little mains included.

Little Mexico Cantina

150 – 3131 Chatham Street, Richmond, BC

Kids with a hearty appetite love visiting Steveston’s Little Mexico Cantina, where a dedicated menu for those aged 10 and under covers all the hunger-busting bases. Special-sized burrito and quesadilla dishes are available here as well as a kids bowl option made with beans, rice, cheese, salsa and more. And for those youngsters who are not fans of classic Mexican meals, there are also chicken strips and fries plus fish and chips options available.

50s Burger

Steveston’s new 50s Burger restaurant has a huge array of classic comfort food for grown-ups who love hot dogs, fish and chips and amazing burgers (there are 12 to choose from here). But this is also a good place to bring the family, with two special dishes for young and hungry visitors. The kid-friendly cheeseburger or chicken tender options come with fries plus a choice of juice boxes. And if they still have room, there’s a tempting ice cream sundae option on the dessert menu––sharing recommended.

With three ever-popular Richmond locations—including one at CF Richmond Centre—the granddaddy of BC family dining has perfected kid-friendly meals, serving a wide array of options for those aged 10 and under in its beloved Pirate Pak cardboard boats. There are three kid-sized breakfast options (with waffles, pancakes, sausages, and more), plus hearty lunch and dinner choices ranging from hamburgers to spaghetti and meatballs. The finale? A scoop of ice cream (with a sundae upgrade option as a special treat).

KEG RESTAURANT & BAR 

11151 No. 5 Road, Richmond, BC

Junior diners can explore their evolving foodie side at this popular Richmond Keg where there’s a range of elevated child-friendly combos aimed at the under-12 set. Options include a mini burger and a dedicated kids’ sirloin steak, each served with a choice of fries, salad or cooked vegetables. Every child meal also comes with a drink, veggie platter and ice cream dessert. They also have some special smoothies for kids here, including luscious peach and berry options.
