Steveston Farmers & Artisans Market

Garry Point Park on Seventh Avenue, between Moncton Street and Chatham Street, Richmond, BC
Sundays (10:30am to 3:30pm) May 11 & 25, June 1 & 15, July 13 & 27, August 17 & 31, September 14 & 28

There’s no better place to spend a sunny Sunday than this family-friendly favourite. It’s also the perfect side dish to a Steveston day out––Fisherman’s Wharf, multiple restaurants and two National Historic Sites are all nearby. Keep in kind that this year’s market has a new location––the edge of Garry Point Park on Seventh Avenue, between Moncton and Chatham.

Make sure you bring extra shopping bags so you can stock up on produce from several regional farms here. Fresh-picked berries, tree fruits and a full larder of vegetables (including specialties such as microgreens and mushroom varieties) are often huge highlights. And be sure to visit several times throughout the season for crisp corn on the cob, sweet local blueberries and much more.

This market is also popular for its non-produce items. This year, you’ll find local honey and decadent bakery treats. And, over the years, we’ve also discovered vendors selling everything from candles to artisanal soaps and from pottery to unique artworks. The secret to a successful market visit? Slow down, sip a large coffee and browse all the super-friendly vendors.

Market manager Pinky says: “Personally, I am most looking forward to the variety of fresh berries this year. They are my favourite grab as an easy, healthy snack!”

ATHIANA ACRES

12800 No. 2 Road, Richmond, BC
Please note: temporarily closed

Family-owned Athiana Acres is a delightful destination for a farm visit. Growing a huge array of fruits, herbs, vegetables and flowers throughout the seasons, they also run an annual farmers’ market that gets bigger and better every year––and 2025 is no exception. Alongside the farm-grown goodies in the covered market area, you’ll find more than 20 additional vendors to peruse, including bakeries, food trucks, beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), jewellery, candles, clothing and more. The vendors will change throughout the season, but we’re especially looking forward to Livia Sweets, Earnest Ice Cream and BAK’D Cookies!

As the harvesting unfolds at the farm, look for Athiana’s own-grown cauliflower, cabbage, potatoes, lettuce, peppers, beets, carrots, corn, radicchio, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, mixed herbs and dozens more. And if (like us), you’re a huge fan of local fruits you’ll also find strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, watermelon and cantaloupe as they become available.

Consider some fresh-cut flowers as well––these colourful bouquets were a hot item on our visits last year. New for 2025, there will even be a U-pick flower option available during the market. Speaking of fun activities, we also recommend an Athiana farm tour. These Sunday-morning-only interactive tours cost $5 per person and you can reserve via their website before you arrive.

Kwantlen Farmers Market

7700 Minoru Gate, Richmond, BC
Tuesdays (11:00am to 4:00pm) May 6 to October 28

Returning to its popular Minoru Plaza location––just outside the city’s centre’s main public library branch––this friendly market is a must-see for locals and visitors. Start with a bakery treat (we’ve definitely indulged in plenty of cookies and croissants here over the years), then wander around and chat to the vendors.

This year, you’ll find fresh, local as well as organic produce including lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, berries and herbs. And alongside those aforementioned bakery goodies (don’t forget to pick up a loaf to-go), there will also be handmade artisanal items such as soap and origami. One vendor will even be offering a knife-sharpening service!

There will also be an ever-changing array of vegetables from Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Department of Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems––all grown by the students right here in Richmond. In previous years, we’ve enjoyed their delicious kale, celery, peppers and radishes. In fact, we recommend returning several times during the season to discover what’s just been harvested.

Market organizer Naomi Mallare says: “I’m looking forward to seeing a wider range of items and services this season––we’ve been working behind the scenes to get some more unique vendors and even food trucks! I also feel that more people are familiarizing themselves with our market every year, and I really love seeing the community come alive in the heart of the city.

Richmond Country Farms

12900 Steveston Highway, Richmond, BC
Daily 9:00am to 8:00pm

Don’t worry if you can’t make it to one of the markets above. You can still get your fill of local produce at the family-run Richmond Country Farms. Now open for its 2025 season––and operating every day of the week––this destination attraction is centered on a large red barn building fronted by heaping outdoor produce tables and full-to-the-brim fruit and vegetable containers.

They’re famous here for planting a little bit of everything, giving customers lots of Richmond-grown options––as well as produce from other areas––to choose from. Favourites include blueberries, strawberries and the season’s much-anticipated corn on the cob. We’re also huge fans of their beets, kale, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, zucchini, Brussels sprout stalks and multiple potato varieties––we loved the Warba nugget potatoes last year.

Inside the barn, look for artisan preserves, fruit pies and pales of ice cream. And don’t miss the site’s additional attractions: a mini menagerie of farm animals in their colourful enclosures as well as Country Vines Winery, a charming onsite operation with well-priced Richmond-made wines to sample and purchase.

Richmond Country Farms’ Tonya Karmin says:“It’s hard to choose just one thing but personally I’m really looking forward to our own-grown strawberries––the best I’ve ever eaten in my life! I look forward to strawberry season every year and you just have to come and try them!”
