With the fourth annual Steveston Spot Prawn and Seafood Celebration launching on May 14, locals and visitors have been flocking to Richmond’s historic shoreline village. The 2025 edition of the much-loved, multi-week event offers a full serving of tasty, ocean-themed fun––and there’s still plenty more to come before everything wraps on June 15.

That includes a free, family-friendly Spot Prawn Day on June 7––complete with performances, hands-on activities and culinary demonstrations from leading local chefs (read on for this year’s guest chef line-up). Also, from May 31 to June 15, there’s a taste-tripping Richmond Dine About promotion, with more than a dozen city restaurants serving their own delectable seafood creations––we have the full list of eateries and their special dishes below.

Meet the Fishers

Every year, the heart of the Seafood Celebration is the spotlight it shines on B.C.’s hardworking fishing industry, one of the largest in Canada. Many of these West Coast fisher families have been plying the regional waters here for generations––and some can trace their provenance back more than a century. Already underway and continuing throughout the festival, you can meet some of these families face-to-face by visiting Steveston’s Fisherman’s Wharf.

Stroll along the floating dock here and you’ll find glistening, fresh-catch seafood for sale on the gently bobbling fishing boats. You’ll likely see salmon, squid, geoduck and some spiky sea urchins, of course. But it’s those sweet, world-famous B.C. spot prawns that are the biggest hook for most visitors. In fact, this is your golden opportunity to net the tastiest crustaceans you’ll ever find—before they run out for the year!

SPOT PRAWN DAY

Another highlight of the Seafood Celebration is the annual Spot Prawn Day extravaganza that takes place on the shoreline in Steveston. And in 2025, this admission-free, family-friendly fiesta is bigger and better than ever. Running on Saturday June 7, you’ll discover a huge array of activities and entertainment here throughout the day. Plan ahead to make sure you don’t miss anything.

We’re especially looking forward to the live music and performances at Fisherman’s Wharf; the themed mural created by artist Laura Kwok; the Kids Zone, with face-painting, an inflatable bouncy boat and more; and the stands showcasing organic fishing and regenerative farming. The Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site will also be hosting a special Sustainability Expo, complete with marine experts, interactive activities and free-entry for all.

CHEFS ON STAGE

But perhaps the most hotly anticipated Spot Prawn Day feature every year is the program of live cooking demonstrations presented on a special stage at Fisherman’s Wharf. Supported by the Pacific Prawn Fisherman’s Association, 2025’s Culinary Stage will include unique presentations from six expert B.C. chefs, each serving up their own personal tips, preparation ideas and must-try recipes to seafood-curious audiences.

We can exclusively reveal that this year’s expert line up includes Chef Vontel Murray from Moxies Richmond; Chef Robert Clark from Organic Ocean Seafood; Chef Ben Kiely from the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts; Chef Warren Pahl from the Northwest Culinary Academy of Vancouver; Chef Trish Whetstone from Trish Talks Fish; and Chef Olivier Archambault-Torrico from the Fairmont Vancouver Airport. Why not catch them all on June 7?

RESTAURANT SPECIALS

Another much-anticipated feature of the Seafood Celebration is also back on the menu in 2025. Running from May 31 to June 15, Dine About is your chance to sample how great chefs prepare and serve our local spot prawn bounty. And this year, there are 13 restaurants participating throughout the city. Book now to enjoy the limited edition dishes at these handpicked eateries.

Consider Spot Prawn with Anchovy Seafood Sauce at Baan Lao Fine Thai Cuisine or Spot Prawns with Pernod, Tarragon and Feta at Blue Canoe Waterfront Restaurant. Nearby, Catch Kitchen + Bar is serving a Sizzling Spot Prawn Skillet, while CHJ Bistro has a tempting Herbal & Pepper Spot Prawn.

Fresh and delicious Spot Prawn Ceviche is the order of the day over at Little Mexico Cantina, while Spot Prawn Tartare is the special at Little Karp Restaurant. In contrast, a delightful Spot Prawn and Grilled Romaine Salad is the star of Globe&YVR‘s Seafood Celebration menu.

Alternatively, dive into Seafood Spaghettini with Spot Prawns at Britannia Brewing––beer pairing recommended. And be sure to also include a tasty beverage at O’Hare’s Gastropub, which is serving a hearty Steveston Fish Pie during this year’s Dine About.

Just a few steps from each other at Fisherman’s Wharf, choose between Lavash Signature Spot Prawns at Lavash Seaside Grill or Thai-style Steamed Spot Prawns with Glass Noodles at Shady Island Seafood Bar & Grill––or why not try both? We’re also keen to tuck into the Humble Shrimp dish at Shine Valley Lamb Soup––plus the Poached Spot Prawns at Steveston Seafood House.

Hungry? Don’t miss this year’s Steveston Spot Prawn and Seafood Celebration. There are lots of ways to dive right in––and if you miss the boat, you’ll have to wait until 2026 to “fresh catch” all the excitement.
