Read on for our road-tested rundown of entertaining suggestions––including some under-the-radar gems––then gather your favourite friends together for a fun-tastic night out in the city.
Live music at the Story Café
2800 Sexsmith Road, Richmond, BC
If you haven’t yet discovered the cozy, super-friendly Story Café (it’s just a five-minute walk from the Bridgeport Canada Line Station), consider booking a table during one of their weekly live music nights. Alongside a menu of gourmet burgers, pizzas, seafood and more, the tiny stage area serves-up soothing acoustic sets on Tuesdays and toe-tapping Hong Kong pop on Thursdays. Add some luscious cocktails from the bar for the perfect chill out vibe.

Drinks and more at Lulu Island Winery
16880 Westminster Highway, Richmond, BC
If sipping wine in a Tuscan-style setting appeals to you, head to Lulu Island Winery between 3:00pm and 7:00pm on any given Friday. Admission is free and you’ll find Happy Hour specials, cheese and charcuterie plates and musicians ranging from jazz combos to piano performers. Check the winery’s calendar for other events as well––they also host popular Open Mic Nights and PaintNites here, typically on weekends.

Quiz nights at Milltown Bar & Grill
101 – 9191 Bentley Street, Richmond, BC
A nightlife favourite with in-the-know locals, shoreline Milltown serves-up a warm welcome, great B.C. craft beers and a menu of pub grub classics (we love their jambalaya). Plan ahead and you can also dive into their Thursday evening Trivia Quiz, featuring prizes and drinks specials. But that’s not all. Every second Friday, there’s also a Name That Tune quiz here––and it’s famous for its lively, party-like atmosphere.

Puzzle challenges at Time Escape
140 – 3471 No. 3 Road, Richmond, BC
Keen to give your grey matter a workout? Gather your brainiest buddies and book an evening slot at Time Escape. You’ll have a series of themed escape room games to choose from––including The Prophecy, Sacred Treasures and The Sorcerer’s Quest––and your team will have 50 minutes to deploy its creative smarts and solve a series of mind-bending puzzles. We had a blast tackling The Prophecy here––although some of its challenges definitely took us longer than we expected!

Bowling fun at Splitsville
150 – 14200 Entertainment Boulevard, Richmond, BC
The former Lucky 9 Lanes is now Splitsville Riverport––but it’s still one of Richmond’s most popular night out options. Book a timeslot for one of the 40 lanes (both 5-pin and 10-pin are available) and you and your group will have a blast trying to out strike each other. Looking for a deal? Sunday evening’s All You Can Bowl special (after 8:00pm) costs just $20 per person, shoes included. Need more? The adjoining Seven 10 Social serves craft beers and pub grub.

Games and more at E-Spot
1000 – 8181 Cambie Road, Richmond, BC
Handily located in President Plaza, just steps from Canada Line’s Aberdeen Station, E-Spot is a large arcade complex brimming with thrill-a-minute fun. You’ll find top games here such as Tekken 7 and Point Blank X, as well as electronic darts and even traditional billiards tables. Don’t miss the recently installed SkyRider XD simulator, which immerses you in adrenalin-rushing digital escapades such as Doomsday City and Polar Adventure.

Craft a masterpiece with Phoenix Art Workshop

Steveston’s creative hotspot (they also organize the popular Grand Prix of Art annual event), Phoenix Art Workshop hosts a lively roster of well-priced classes at its dedicated studio location––including plenty of evening offerings. Peruse their upcoming schedule and you’ll find workshops to suit your interests and proficiencies in areas from watercolour painting to still life drawing and much more.

Sing your heart out at Millennium Karaoke
201 – 4451 No. 3 Road, Richmond, BC
With countless karaoke venues to choose from, Richmond is an easy destination to exercise your vocal cords with all your like-minded sing-a-long friends. Book a private room at Millennium Karaoke, for example, and you’ll soon be hitting the high notes (or trying to) on Dancing Queen, I Will Always Love You and more. There’s also a tempting drink and dine menu here plus evening discounts for night owls who love warbling into the wee hours.

Live jamming at the Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans Club
105 – 11900 No. 1 Road, Richmond, BC
If you prefer watching someone else perform, drop into Steveston’s hidden gem Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans Club. Non-members are welcome (simply sign-in at the door) and you’ll discover drink and dine specials plus regular live entertainment––including music on most Friday and Saturday evenings. Our favourite weekly event here is Wednesday’s admission-free 7:00pm to 10:30pm Jam Night where an eclectic roster of local performers takes to the stage.
Cocktails and more at Jetside Lounge
3111 Grant McConachie Way, Richmond, BC
Located at the stylish Fairmont Vancouver Airport, the under-the-radar Jetside Lounge is a brilliant evening chill-out spot that welcomes travellers and in-the-know locals. There’s laid-back live music every evening from 6:00pm to 10:30pm (expect anything from melodic singer-songwriters to sparkling jazz vocalists) and you’ll enjoy great views of the runways and the North Shore mountains while you sip on some of Richmond’s finest cocktail creations.
